Ashley Municipal Airport (ASY)

Located one nautical mile southeast of downtown Ashley, the Ashley Municipal airport covers an area of 90 acres at an elevation of 2,032 feet above sea level. It has two runways: 14/32 is 4,300 by 60 feet with an asphalt surface with active lights and 8/26 is 2.825 by 150 feet with a turf surface.

The Ashley Ambulance Service was formed in 1973 with the cooperation of city officials and the ND Department of Health. The service covers 900 square miles of McIntosh County in south central ND. They also provide 911 coverage to Long Lake, SD and intercept services for area hospitals.

Ashley Ambulance is a Basic Life Support (BLS) licensed service that also provides Advanced Life Support (ALS) care 99% of the time.  Staffing for the Ashley Ambulance continues to be all volunteer. We are very fortunate to have a dedicated group of 30 members that provide 24 hour coverage. Staffing includes CPR/Drivers, EPR’s (1st Responder), EMT’s, AEMT (Advanced) & Paramedics. The services provided allows us to provide care equal to that of a flight service or mobile ICU.

The AFPD was formed in 2017, which combined the Ashley Fire Dept. and The Ashley rural fire dept. The Department is made up of all volunteers that service a 400 Sq. mile area. We are a full fire and rescue
department. We are trained in structural and wildland fires and also trained in and certified for the Jaws of Life in case of auto accidents.
We maintain a fleet of 2 pumper trucks, 1 rescue truck, 4 wildland trucks and a tanker truck. Two of our trucks are also capable to spray water or foam which suppresses the fire.
We are part of the community and are open, by appointment, for tours of our facility and trucks.

The Hospital has 20 beds, all of which can be designated as swing beds.  It is staffed by a visiting surgeon and two Family Nurse Practitioners, Cardiac Rehab., CT Scan, Contracted Services, Emergency Trauma, Hospice/Home Health, PT service, surgical Services, Tele-Medicine, living apartments and wellness Center.  The Hospital also has a 40 bed Nursing Home attached.

Located on the south shore of Lake Hoskins about 4 miles west of present day Ashley, the settlement of Hoskins was the original McIntosh County seat. Hoskins was established in 1884 and later abandoned in 1888 when Ashley was established. Today, on the shores of Lake Hoskins, lies a monument in remembrance of the first families of the settlement at Hoskins.

Today, Ashley continues to be the county seat for McIntosh County including the county courthouse built in 1920 which houses county offices as well as the county court of law. The county has several agencies including Health, Social Services, Sheriff Department, Ag Extension Service, District Attorney, as well as proper area for deeds and registry.
